The Texas Center's main area of focus is CBI and HPS. This part of the website is designed to give you an overview of the types of action-research in this area we are currently undertaking and have undertaken in the past (in addition to the Survey of Innovative Organizations, S.I.O., our benchmarking the best practices instrument).
A meta-analysis of 131 field studies from 1961 to 1991 on organizational change, design and work innovation published by Macy & Izumi (1993) showed that major organizational change efforts are driven by 76 "Innovation Action-Levers." These action-levers are broken down into four categories: Organization Capacity, Human Resources, Technology and Total Quality Leadership. The next pages summarize these action levers, and notes which of the 75 were found to be significantly related to financial performance improvement.
We also conduct action-research into the "Complex Team Terrain Continuum." This research examines the various types, prevalence and impact of teams in U.S. Corporations. The continuum presented here, depicts increasingly sophisticated organizational use of teams and increasing impact of teams on the organization. For example, high-performance teams in vertical structures on average add $2.5 million in organizational value, while fully aligned, permanent self-directed teams add approximately $10 million in value.
